Surabaya, suarabali.com – Untuk kali pertama,sebanyak 14 ton benih jagung hibrida berhasil menembus pasar ekspor di Thailand. Pelepasan komoditas ekspor karya anak bangsa dengan nilai ekonomi Rp 840 juta ini berlangsung di Pendopo Krida Manunggal, Kabupaten Tuban, Jawa Timur, Sabtu (12/12/2020).
“Prestasi yang patut diapresiasi. Selain dapat memenuhi kebutuhan dalam negeri, juga mampu memenuhi permintaan pasar luar negeri, ” kata Kepala Bidang Karantina Tumbuhan I Nyoman Arnawa mewakili Kepala Karantina Pertanian Surabaya saat hadir menyaksikan pelepasan perdana oleh Bupati Kabupaten Tuban, H. Fathul Huda.
Sebagai informasi, kualitas benih akan menentukan hasil panen. Benih yang bermutu tinggi akan dapat meningkatkan hasil dan sebaliknya. Pentingnya peran benih dalam proses produksi pertanian menggerakkan Kementerian Pertanian melalui Badan Litbang melakukan penelitian untuk menghasilkan benih jagung hibrida yang berkualitas, yaitu varietas JH37 dan RK457.
JH37 dan RK457 merupakan benih F1 hasil persilangan introduksi dari Thailand. Selain Badan Litbang, produksi benih ini didukung 20 kelompok tani di Kecamatan Jatirogo, Tuban, dan PT TWINN perusahaan agribisnis lokal. Area pertanaman untuk program korporasi ini seluas 239,6 hektare.
“Karantina Pertanian Surabaya sangat mendukung penuh upaya-upaya peningkatan ekspor komoditas pertanian Jawa Timur. Selanjutnya, kami pastikan bahwa benih jagung tersebut sehat sebelum Phytosanitari Certificate diterbitkan,” papar Arnawa.
Turut hadir Direktur Perbenihan Kementerian Pertanian, Gubernur Jawa Timur yang diwakili oleh Kepala Dinas Pertanian Tanaman Pangan Jawa Timur.
Program korporasi ini diharapkan dapat menjadi contoh dan bisa dilakukan oleh petani-petani di provinsi lain. (Rls/Sir)
